COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Weyerhaeuser Company has made a significant contribution to wildfire safety in Oregon by donating 38 acres of land in Disston to Row River Fire Response (RRFR).

This donation will facilitate the construction of a new emergency substation aimed at improving wildfire response times in the Row River Valley.

According to Weyerhaeuser, the new substation will be a satellite fire station equipped with a fire truck and water tender, enhancing emergency response in Dorena, Culp Creek, and surrounding areas. The Row River Valley, a rural region outside Cottage Grove, faces high wildfire risk each summer and has historically lacked rapid access to city fire department services.

“Thriving, resilient communities are vital to the well-being of our employees, our neighbors and the places where we live and work in Oregon,” said Lyndcy Patrick, land use manager at Weyerhaeuser.

Kathleen Istudor, Executive Director at RRFR, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its importance for community safety and resilience.

“The land donation provides more than just infrastructure. It gives our firefighters the resources to respond quickly and gives our community much-needed protection,” said Istudor.

This donation is part of Weyerhaeuser’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural fire protection districts. The company has contributed more than $70,000 in recent years to support similar initiatives in its operating communities.
